Bakery & High Temperature Casters

For standard commercial rack ovens, select casters rated for continuous operation at a minimum of 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Convection and rotary rack ovens may require ratings up to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. The rating should reflect continuous exposure, not brief peak tolerance—casters inside rack ovens experience sustained heat for 30-60 minutes or more per bake cycle.

Phenolic resin wheels are the industry standard for bakery oven applications, handling continuous temperatures up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Glass-filled nylon is rated for temperatures up to approximately 350 degrees Fahrenheit and offers excellent chemical resistance. High-temperature epoxy wheels can withstand even higher temperatures. Never use polyurethane, rubber, or standard nylon in oven rack applications—they will soften and deform.

Stainless steel frames are strongly recommended for any caster that will be exposed to steam, washdown procedures, or direct moisture. Bakeries combine high heat with high humidity, which accelerates corrosion on zinc-plated or painted steel frames. Stainless steel 304-grade rigs resist both heat-related oxidation and moisture-driven corrosion, providing significantly longer service life in bakery environments.

Quality high-temperature casters are designed to withstand repeated heating and cooling cycles without cracking or warping. The key is the thermal expansion coefficient of the wheel material—phenolic and epoxy resins expand and contract at predictable, manageable rates. The failure point for most casters in bakery service is the bearing grease, not the wheel. Make sure bearings are packed with grease rated for your oven's operating temperature.

High-temperature bakery casters are built from materials specifically selected for sustained heat exposure. Phenolic, glass-filled nylon, and high-temperature epoxy wheels maintain their structural integrity at temperatures where polyurethane and rubber compounds would soften, deform, and fail. Stainless steel and high-temperature-rated steel rigs resist the corrosion caused by constant moisture, steam, and washdown procedures. Bearings are packed with high-temperature grease rated for continuous operation above 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
