About This Caster Socket - 002255
Use this metal socket insert to turn a wooden leg into a mount for a grip-neck stem caster.
A wood socket is a metal sleeve that drives into a drilled hole in a wooden leg and gives it a bore sized to hold a tapered grip-neck caster stem, so a chair, table, or wood-framed cart takes a standard caster without a bolt plate. The insert grips the inside of the drilled hole so it holds the caster under load, and a grip-neck stem pushes into the bore by hand for service. Match the socket to your caster's stem size and drill the hole to the size the socket calls for before driving it in.
Ideal applications
- Wooden furniture and cart legs taking a grip-neck stem caster
- Drilled wood holes that grip a driven-in metal socket
- Chairs, tables, and wood frames without a bolt plate
For the Shepherd saw-tooth wood socket with a documented 5/16 stem and drill spec, the SR2402ZN-M36 gives an exact fit.
Pairs with: matching tapered grip-neck (wood) stem casters and a wooden leg drilled to the socket's spec.
Wrong fit? Need a documented stem size or a tube-frame socket? See the saw-tooth SR2402ZN-M36 and the grip-ring square-tube sockets in the Shepherd collection.
Also in this family: the saw-tooth wood socket SR2402ZN-M36, or the full Shepherd collection.
