Wear strips are the sacrificial face on a stair climber. They are meant to wear out. The climbers are not.
Every descent drags these strips across a stair nose under the full weight of the load, so on a busy route they thin out long before anything else on the truck does. Left too long, the strip wears through and the stair edge starts cutting the climber rail itself, which turns a few dollars into a new set of climbers. Swapping them is a bolt-on job that takes minutes, and at this price there is no argument for running them to failure.
