The wheel molds a rubber tread onto a cast iron centre: the iron carries the heavy load without flex, while the rubber tread keeps the roll quiet and easier on the floor than bare iron or phenolic. The roller bearing handles the weight. It is the wheel for a loaded cart in a place where noise still gets noticed, like a busy dock or a shipping area inside an occupied building.
