Choose this 4-inch Empire 170 swivel with a swivel lock when a small wet-area cart needs to steer, then track straight down a run on command.

A swivel lock holds the swivel from rotating so the caster runs straight when engaged, then releases to maneuver again, which keeps a towed cart from wandering. It locks the swivel, not the wheel, so the cart still rolls when held. The wheel is glass-filled polypropylene, a stiff reinforced plastic that takes -20 to 250°F and shrugs off corrosion in humid or caustic bays. It is hard with no cushioning, rolls easily on smooth floors, and can mark, and at 4 inches it carries up to 800 pounds on a roller bearing for manual pushing. The swivel turns on a kingpinless welded raceway, bolts on a 4 by 4-1/2-inch top plate at a low 5-5/8-inch mount height, and is zinc plated.
