The frame is stainless steel, built for the wash-down and corrosive conditions that rust a plated caster, and the wheel is Colson's blue hi-temp polypropylene retort tread, made to ride through autoclave and food-processing retort cycles where heat and steam would melt or soften an elastomer. It holds from -45 to 250°F and resists the chemicals used in sterile processing. The pedestal precision ball bearing keeps it rolling smoothly at speed and on tow lines. Being a hard plastic wheel, it offers no cushioning and can mark a soft finished floor, so this is a heat-and-chemistry caster, not a quiet one. Rigid means it tracks straight rather than steering.
